For many of us, our budgets consist of nothing more than here's the cash, there's the bills.

Here are 6 simple rules for making a budget

Have a plan of attack. It should have some structure but not so much that your life is unrecognizable.
Gather records. If you don't keep good records how can you know how you spend money.
Define your short term and long term goals.
Create a budget, by looking at all your expenditures and bills, and also your savings.
Pay down your debt. A no brainer.
Concentrate on investing.
